Gift of life?

Should I bow in gratitude or grieve in solitude as I receive the gift of life?

Should I bow in gratitude
Or grieve in solitude
As I receive the gift of life?

Should I overlook the misery,
Empty bowels of the treasury;
Turn deaf ears to the screams of strife?

Should I disregard a child’s glee,
Get outside the shade of the tree,
And dig up a grave of sorrow?

Should I forget all of my sins,
Flush away dead skins,
And start anew tomorrow?

Should I abandon memories of a smiling brother,
Bury a loving wife and mother
To walk through the door of closure?

Should I give up all wish and hope,
Endure life on a tight rope,
And make a discreet departure?

Is life
Or the lack of it
The real gift?

Is the pain of living in sorrow
Or the fate of having to let go
The more lucrative fit?

Is the world
We’re dying to live in
The bane or the boon?

Should I bow in gratitude
Or grieve in solitude
As I receive the gift of life?

For every day
That comes my way
To savor, enjoy and celebrate…

For every moment
Leading to joy and excitement,
And the love I receive to recuperate…

For the roller coaster ride
Making me relish the upside
Covering the sadness with silt…

For the light rays upon my window side
That make me feel warm and safe inside,
I accept this life, a gift.

A reader, a writer, a nature lover.
